Flank cinches should be snug against the horse but never tight. A good rule of thumb is to allow space for two fingers between the flank cinch and the horse at the apex of the belly. The cinch should not hang loose or drop below the horse’s belly, as this can create a safety risk for both horse and rider.
For safe and correct use, always attach the rear cinch hobble strap between the front and rear cinches. This keeps the flank cinch positioned correctly and prevents it from becoming a “bucking strap.”
